Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents

      By:

      Isabel Wilkerson

In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beyond race, class, or other factors, there is a powerful caste system that influences people’s lives and behavior and the nation’s fate. Linking the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany, Wilkerson explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations, including divine will, bloodlines, stigma, and more. This book offers an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

      Demystifying Executive Functions:
Understanding What Gets In Your Client's Way
      Presented By:
      Leslie Josel

      Thursday, June 24, 2021
      3pm - 5pm PST

      This class is CEU Qualifying

Code Words are required to obtain your CEU certificate.
Certificates will be sent out within the month.

This will be a virtual class presented on Zoom.
The Zoom link will be sent to registrants the day-of before the class.

Executive functioning skills are essential to how we learn and act. They are the brain’s ability to filter, suppress and “screen out” all incoming information (including our own thoughts and reactions) that might “get in the way” of our ability to self-regulate and complete tasks. When the brakes are not working optimally, you have difficulty attending to the “correct thing”, at the right time, with the right intensity and flexibility. Leslie will break down the six core Executive Functions, explain how they control EVERYTHING we do, and detail specific scaffolding, strategies and systems to offer support for each one. She will explain how they affect our clients and provide practical solutions using case studies to help conquer organization, time management, procrastination and focusing weaknesses.

In this class you will learn:

      • The six pillars of executive functions and how they control how we act.
      • How to recognize certain behaviors that might indicate executive functioning weaknesses are present.
      • Specific strategies that help strengthen our organization, time management, focusing and memory muscle.
      • The essential to creating a "motivating" work environment - in-person and virtually.
Join Leslie in this 2-hour workshop to gain a better understanding of Executive Functions and what gets in your client's way.

The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully

      By:

      Frank Ostaseski

Death is not waiting for us at the end of a long road. Death is always with us, in the marrow of every passing moment. She is the secret teacher hiding in plain sight, helping us to discover what matters most. Life and death are a package deal. They cannot be pulled apart and we cannot truly live unless we are aware of death. The Five Invitations is an exhilarating meditation on the meaning of life and how maintaining an ever-present consciousness of death can bring us closer to our truest selves. Ostaseski, cofounder of the Zen Hospice Project and pioneer behind the compassionate care movement shares an inspiring exploration of the lessons dying has to offer about living a fulfilling life.

Drop the Ball: achieving more by doing less

      By:

      Tiffany Dufu

In Drop the Ball, Dufu recounts how she learned to reevaluate expectations, shrink her to-do list, and meaningfully engage the assistance of others―freeing the space she needed to flourish at work and to develop deeper, more meaningful relationships at home. Offering new perspective on why the women’s leadership movement has stalled, and packed with actionable advice, Tiffany Dufu’s Drop the Ball urges women to embrace imperfection, expect less of themselves and more from others― so they can focus on what they truly care about, devote the necessary energy to achieving their real goals, and create the type of rich, rewarding life we all desire.
