From Hoarding To Helping

The Personal Journey of a Professional Organizer

Presented by Amy Bowles, Been There Done That Organizing

Amy Bowles, a former military intelligence professional, lived through years of compulsive shopping and acquiring, depression, multiple life traumas, and many years of hoarding behavior. She climbed up from the clutter, established a business as a Professional Organizer, and now specializes in clients with hoarding behavior, and other brain-based issues (chronic disorganization, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and depression).

On Monday July 25th Amy will share her story - from hoarding to helping. Her presentation provides lessons with universal appeal for organizers who do, and do not, work with people who hoard. With an emphasis on mindset and empathy, Amy offers tips and strategies to improve our client relationships, and especially our hoarding clients. You do not want to miss this!

  • Understand the importance of asking and giving permission when working with clients
  • Discover how cognitive dissonance plays into the organizer – client relationship
  • Learn why “mindset" is important to doing a great job
  • Explore empathy as a key to doing this work

Plus,
Out With the Auction, In With the Drawing!

We are changing things up at the NAPO-LA Chapter Meetings! For every $5 donation, you will be entered to win an hour with an organizer, as well as other great prizes!

In July, you have the opportunity to have some on-one-one time with veteran organizer Sara Getzkin of Hands on Organizing!  Sara’s focus is primarily residential organizing with an emphasis on Senior Transitions, relocation services, financial organizing, and the organization of small, home-based businesses.  Often referred to by fellow organizers as the resident “recycling queen,” she loves to talk about the “4 Rs” – Recycling, Reducing, Re-purposing and Refusing.   Most recently, she was appointed co-leader of NAPO National's ECO-SIG (environmentally conscience organizers special interest group).

You will also have the opportunity to win a SIGNED copy of Fay Wolf’s new book, “New Order: Decluttering Handbook for Creative Folks (and Everyone Else).”

Cash, check, and credit card donations are accepted. Multiple donations (and chances to win!) are HIGHLY encouraged! The drawing will take place at the end of the meeting and you must be present to win.

Good luck!
